Please read this and print it for future reference. The information
provided here is a combination of general information and most frequently
asked questions. · Union Dues are due and payable by the tenth of each month. WORKING members must pay during the current month. If you are late and do not pay in the current month dues owed by the last day of that month) a $10 late fee charge will be assessed. You should receive our courtesy statement around the middle of the month. If you do not receive it by the 25th of the month you should call our office. If you let your dues go unpaid for three months (delinquent), a $50 late fee is required by the UA and will be charged to you and you will be subject to being removed from the job until all dues are paid
in full. ·
Your monthly dues are calculated at two times the hourly rate plus
$22.00 (or the current amount charged by the UA).
Refer to your dispatch slip to insure you are paying the right amount. ·
Dispatching hours are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM Monday - Friday.
Members can sign the out-of work books during
dispatch
hours of 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Any
Building Trades Journeyman must be (current) PIPE Certified to sign Book 1 or Book 2 out of work list.
Members can
only be dispatched if they are a member in good standing (not delinquent, 3
months behind of dues). ·

for Executive Board dates and times, and other pertinent information. · Local 230’s Apprentice and Journeymen Training Center is located at 6225 Federal Boulevard San Diego, CA 92114 (South of Highway 94 near Lemon Grove). The daytime phone for the J. A. C. secretary (Caryn Bateman) is (619) 262-7589 and the weld shop (and nighttime phone) is (619) 266-1325. The Training Center Office is open Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The weld/brazing shop is open Monday through Wednesday 8:00 am. to 5:00 p.m. AND Thursday 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Both the Training Center and Weld Shop are closed on Friday. Evening
Apprentice class hours are
normally from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Journeyman up-grade classes usually start
at 5:00 PM. Be sure to call the school before attending
to be sure a holiday or summer vacation closure is not in effect. All
classes are available to all members in good standing on a first come-first
serve basis. ·
All Fringe Benefit contributions (including the Vacation and Holiday
amount), paid by your employer, are sent to
the Southern California Pipe Trades Administrative Corporation in Los
Angeles by the 15th of the month in the following month in which they
were earned. Example: hours worked in June
are reported by the 15th of July. ·
Your
Health & Welfare Medical/Dental insurance coverage eligibility will begin after you have worked
sufficient hours at the current contribution amount to get $1,565.20 in your "hour
bank" at the Trust Fund.
This is calculated on an hourly contribution
rate of $6.02 per hour. Your Trust Fund
insurance will
become effective the first day of the
month following the month that you have $1,565.20 in your account. You will
receive a package of information from the Trust Fund. If
you have any questions call

someone at the Trust Fund: ask for Medical Eligibility! ·
If you wish to participate in the employee voluntary 401 (k) plan, the forms are available here at the office to begin deductions. Be sure to ask for a new
election form or a new complete packet
if participating for the first time.
link to forms at the DC 16 Trust Fund · Vacation & Holiday money is routinely disbursed twice each year in December and April. ONLY ONE Interim withdrawal is permitted during each calendar year. Contact the Business Office of Local 230 or THIS site for forms (click on above). The fiscal year for the Vacation and Holiday Fund is November 1 through the following October 31. The regular disbursements are 30% in December and 70% in April. link to

The Southern California Pipe Trades Trust Fund mails statements four times each year (called "quarterly
statements"). Check the hours reported against your
check stubs- the statement will show hours worked, pension credits earned
and Vacation & Holiday account balance and medical eligibility. You should keep all of your
Trust Fund quarterly statements for future reference. Hours reported are not
cumulative but on a quarterly basis only. You must have a minimum of proven
hours to work in other locals that can be verified by your quarterly
statements. ·
The National Pension Trust Fund sends annual statements only once a
year (now on your birth date) and they are received
around the time of your birth date. The yearly Summary Reports also come to
your home (around the first of May) and contain the latest in benefit calculations and reflect any
increases to the benefit
amount. Be sure to check your statement and be sure all hours are reported. · General membership meetings are held on the second Friday of each
month at 7:00 PM
at Paulson Hall (at the rear of the building). Local 230 is dark in the
month of August. The executive board meets a 6:00
PM before each meeting to conduct any business brought before it. You should
plan to attend the monthly union meetings and learn the business of your union and how your union
operates. · Please request a copy of the U. A. Constitution, Local 230 by-laws, and a copy of the contract under which you work and become familiar with your rights and responsibilities as a member of Local 230. Local 230 operates for the benefit of all it's members. Be sure to attend meetings, participate in its functions, and support its efforts for the success of all working people in the piping trades. You will need to get a specific place at home to keep all your important union related information so you can resurrect the information in the future. A box in one of your closets will work fine. Put all your check stubs in the box. Don't just throw them away. It is your record of when you worked and how many hours per week you worked. Along with the pay stubs, you should keep all statements from the Trust Fund and National Pension along with any medical statements you get from the Trust Fund to be sure they get paid correctly, etc. |
