Created as an independent Federal agency in 1935 to enforce the National Labor Relations Act. Conducts secret ballot elections to determine whether employees want union representation and investigates and remedies unfair labor practices by unions and employers.

 Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS): http://www.fmcs.gov/

Created by Congress in 1947 as an independent agency to promote sound and stable labor-management relations, FMCS offers services in the following areas: dispute resolution, preventative mediation, alternative dispute resolution, arbitration services, labor-management grants, and international services. FMCS links to DOL, BLS, NLRB, FLRA, White House, Senate, House, U.S. Business Advisor.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA): http://www.osha.gov/

The mission of OSHA is to save lives, prevent injuries and protect the health of American workers. To accomplish this, the federal and state governments work in partnership with employers and employees who are covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1970.

The FLRA is an independent agency responsible for the administering the labor-management programs for two million Federal employees worldwide. Its mission is to promote stable and constructive labor-management relations that contribute to efficient and effective government.
