When a U.A. Apprentice becomes a journeyman, his education isn't over - it's just moved to a higher plateau. A high skill level enables our contractors to achieve lower production cost. We have many specialty journeymen, who have the knowledge needed for that particularly difficult or unusual job.
Part of the apprentice and journeyman training is gaining insight into the problems and headaches contractors have every day. The good old fashioned work ethic is still very much alive in our training courses. Our journeymen are expected to give their best, and produce quality workmanship, day in and day out.

JOURNEYMAN WRITTEN TESTS (PIPE Plumber, Fitter, Refrigeration, CFC, etc.) are given at Local 230 Training Center on the first Thursday of each even numbered month (Feb, April, June, etc.) at 6:00 pm. You must fill out a formal request prior to taking a test. Contact the Training Center for more information.
The medical-gas BRAZING CERTIFICATION TEST is offered on demand Monday through Wednesday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM and Thursday from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM at the Training Center. SEE BELOW FOR BRAZING CRITERIA! This certification is only good for six(6) months and must be renewed prior to the expiration date to maintain the installer certification and the actual brazing certification (an ASME code requirement). This can be done with the proper "continuity" paperwork or re-taking the hands-on test again. If your brazing certification lapses there is a new re-certification test that must be done. A proctor must witness each original hands-on test so you must call ahead to be sure Richard will be in with either Caryn at (619) 262-7589 Monday through Thursday between 7:00 AM to 5 :30 PM or Richard at (619) 266-1325. Contact Warren or Mike for continuity information about all your certifications. The shop is closed on Friday.
All training classes offered must be signed up for in advance and a $25.00 refundable fee (upon completion) may be charged to insure participation as required by the A & J Training Trust Fund.
