Welcome to my spot on the Local 230 website.  I am Mike Hartley, Organizer for Local 230.  I have spent 21 years in the piping industry here in San Diego; first as an apprentice, then a journeyman, as a foreman and now as an organizer.  I have the opportunity each day to explain the advantages and benefits of being associated with the Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local 230. My job is one of education of the potential members of the union as well as the potential union contractors.  Organizing is necessary for the continued growth and strength of the union.  This is realized by increasing the market share of both the work and the workers throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. 

Each day, I have the opportunity to talk with workers on the benefits of becoming a union member.  The benefits of becoming a union member consist of medical insurance for you and your family, two separate pension plans, and a vacation and holiday fund. Local 230 offers its members higher wages as well.   Wouldn’t you like to gain the respect and dignity by becoming a union member in the piping industry? 

Each day, I also have the opportunity to speak to non-union contractors about the benefits of becoming union.  These contractors gain a large labor pool of qualified and well trained union members that understand a good day’s work.  These contractors can flex their workforce easily and freely as the work delegates. They do not need to administer their own retirement or healthcare plans.  The union takes care of that for them.
